How To Build A Happy, Effective Work Environment

An effective work environment is vital to the success of small businesses and large corporations alike. When problems remain unsolved and rules never get implemented, the result can be an unproductive staff and a stale work environment.

People working together with a common denominator will accomplish tasks with greater ease and have higher expectations of themselves and their work. A positive work environment is critical no matter how many employees you have. It is management that fosters the work atmosphere
so they are responsible for conducting things in a way that helps raise people's spirits. There are four basic beliefs: hope, trust, pleasure, and opportunity that help create a positive work environment.

Trust

Trust can only be cultivated when boundaries are established. When people have the freedom to make decisions, take some risks, and feel free to tell others what is on their mind, then trust is at least possible. Obligations and responsibilities will make sure they remain honest and accountable.

Setting boundaries is the first step in cultivating trust. Giving people certain freedoms to make decisions, to take risks, to speak their minds, is part of it. Giving them certain obligations will keep them honest and accountable. This is also important.

I places that trust their employees, it is not uncommon to see people making real sacrifices for the betterment of the organization. You would be surprised to see just how far a little praise will go towards motivating people.

You have to establish parameters in order to build trust. Part of this process also means that people must be empowered with the ability to make decisions and speak freely. Obligations help employees stay honest and responsible.

"Petty" rules only create confusion. Boundaries will help mold a self -starter into a productive associate. Strict, irrational rules are enforced by management preoccupied with discipline and allow no room for people to make decisions and take responsibility for them. This only results in a loss of motivation for people to work efficiently.

When a company trusts its employees, those workers are far more likely to make sacrifices to help the company through difficult times. A kind word here and there goes a long way in both the professional and person spheres of influence.

Pleasure

Business owners and managers would love to wake up every morning with a strong urge to be at work. True pleasure at work is possible when everyone is working together to tackle a problem and the team will stick it through to resolution. Laughing once in awhile at work really is not
a waste of company time.

Yes, even the business owner and manager want to wake up the next morning with that "desire" to want to be at work! Real enjoyment at work comes when you and your team are deeply
committed to a problem, and you persevere together to tackle it. It isn't the laughs and giggles that waste company time.

Opportunity

Without growth, your staff falls short of performing. We all need a drive (fuel for the soul) to make us press onward to a high goal. Employees work 9 to 5 punching a clock, and completing repetitive tasks. This gets old, causing employees to move on to better opportunities. Owning a business requires you to be in touch with your staff. Know what is important to your employees. Ask yourself where they see themselves 3, 5, or 10 years from now. Is it realistic? Offer the opportunity for growth within your businesses. Promoting from within always improves staff motivation.

Corporations and small businesses need to evaluate their work environment on a regular basis. This eliminates the chance of lawsuits and the loss of valuable assets. Recognize that your employee has value in your business, and look closely at your total work environment.

Opportunity

Most of us require a challenge in our lives in order to be motivated. Leading your team well means offering them the opportunity to grow in their work environment. Recognize their abilities with praise, wage increases, and/or advancement.

As leader, you are empowered with the ability to inspire people and increase their productivity. By generating an atmosphere that is conducive to trust, hope, pleasure, and the potential for personal growth, you are creating a more powerful team and cultivating future leaders at the same
time.

As a leader, you have the power to influence people and to increase their performance. Creating an environment that encourages trust, optimism, enjoyment, and personal growth will build a sustainable, high-performing team, creating many new leaders in the process.
